? PLEASE  CAN  YOU  HELP ?

After Covid, PESC went through a difficult time replacing Committee Members but now we have passed these problems.  We have a full Programme of talks for this season (2022/23) and a potential Programme for 2023 / 24.  PESC has weathered the storm but we need to consolidate this position and build for the future.

We need More Committee Members – please can you help?  We need people with new ideas for future talks and to help with the existing organisation.  You will learn from the present Committee and from meeting the speakers, who are all experts in their chosen fields.  You will gain in confidence and derive great personal satisfaction from bringing our talks to Engineers and the general public.   Helping with PESC is a very worthwhile activity – please come and join us!!

A message from the chairman

Although most of us are qualified engineers we welcome sudents and other interested people into our meetings which are at Michaelson House hotel on Fairfield Lane at 7:30 every second Monday in the month. This would be excepting the Summer break.

I am Keith Cockburn recently co-opted chairman of the group when Joe Aubrey retired due to ill health. The group was important encouragement to me in going for an Open University degree very late in my career with Bae marine. It enabled me to become a Chartered engineer with the Institute of Measurement and Control (IMC).

I have come to realise that I only managed to get into an engineering institution by the “skin of my teeth” . I had a very interesting job at the Calibration Laboratory at the later part of the Trident program and it was very difficult at that time to find suitable referees. Eventually some guys at BNFL were willing refer me for IMC membership.

Therefore being able to contact qualified engineers is vital to being able to obtain membership of an engineering institution. Also I enjoy being able to talk about techinical advances with other fellows with a pint in a convivial atmosphere.
